I bought Bonnets Coup from Chip Merritt as a weanling at the 2009 Come to the Source sale. He is a big horse with a huge rear end, nice head, clean neck, good withers, a good slope to his shoulder, and a big motor. Dusty and Nick Griffith have put four months of riding on him and he is now ready to go into roping training. Dusty says he has lots of talent and should make a good head or heel horse. He is by Chip's deceased stallion Wyo Bluebonnet and out a a red dun mare called Coups Chick. Chip used to haul a couple of mares every year to A Sharp Commodity, a stud in Laramie who was by a grandson of Triple Chick and out of a daughter of Blue Valentine. Blue Hawk 22 was a dun daughter of Plenty Coup is Coups Chick's mother. Always one of Chips favorite mares. He cowboyed most of a winter for his granddad Buster Hayes for her and Ambrose Sue 30 both daughters of Plenty Coup. We are really looking forward to getting him in the box.
